July 2003

July 2003 UNESCO declared Ubsunurskaya Kotlovina Zapovednik (Tuva Republic) a World Heritage Site, bringing the total number of natural and cultural sites in Russia to 17. The other six natural World Heritage Sites in Russia are the Central Sikhote-Alin (Russian Far East), the Western Caucasus, the Volcanoes of Kamchatka, the Golden Mountains of Altai, Lake Baikal, and Virgin Komi Forests. Ten Russian World Heritage sites are cultural and historical landmarks."
