Russia's Prime Minister Kosyanov signs a decree supporting creation
of nine new zapovedniks and 12 new national parks by the year 2010.
(ITAR-TASS) Russia's Prime Minister Kosyanov signed a decree declaring
the Government's intentions to establish nine new zapovedniks and 12 new
national parks by the year 2010, the Russian Ministry for Natural Resources
announce in early July. The list of protected areas is nearly identical
to the plan for reserve expansion proposed back in 1994. Unfortunately,
no funding instruments or responsible organizations were identified in
the decree. The move, however, demonstrates the Putin Administration's
